Use of Calcium Channel Blockers and Risk of Active Tuberculosis Disease

چکیده

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are known to reduce the availability of iron—an important mineral for intracellular pathogens. Nonetheless, whether use CCBs modifies risk active tuberculosis in clinical setting remains unclear. To determine may modify disease, we conducted a nested case-control study using National Health Insurance Research Database Taiwan between January 1999 and December 2011. Conditional logistic regression disease score adjustment were used calculate associated with CCB use. Subgroup analyses investigated effect different types potential modification subpopulations. A total 8164 new cases 816 400 controls examined. Use was 32% decrease (relative [RR], 0.68 [95% CI, 0.58–0.78]) after score. Compared nonuse CCBs, dihydropyridine lower (RR, 0.63 0.53–0.79]) than nondihydropyridine 0.73 0.57–0.94]). In contrast, ?-blockers 0.99 0.83–1.12]) or loop diuretics 0.88 0.62–1.26]) not tuberculosis. subgroup analyses, similar among patients heart failure cerebrovascular diseases. Our confirms that decreases

Original Contribution Use of Calcium Channel Blockers and Parkinson’s Disease

Experimental evidence and case-control studies suggest that dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (DiCCBs) may protect against Parkinson’s disease. The authors conducted a historical cohort study in Denmark to investigate the association between DiCCB use and risk of Parkinson’s disease (1998–2006). Individual-level data on filled drug prescriptions, diagnostic information, and covariates we...

Use of calcium channel blockers in hypoxic lung disease.

COPD patients who are hypoxic develop pulmonary hypertension primarily because alveolar hypoxia induces muscular hypertrophy of pulmonary arteries. This muscular hypertrophy will regress in animals if they receive continuous oxygen therapy. Since many COPD patients refuse to use oxygen continuously, calcium channel blockers, which inhibit hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction, may be effective adj...

The role of calcium channel blockers in wound healing

Wound healing is a natural response to restore the injured tissue to normal. Wound healing is also complicated process involving different cellular, molecular and biochemical mechanisms and various types of cytokines and growth factors. Calcium channel blockers belong to cardiovascular medicine and administrated to treatment of hypertension, angina and cardiac arrhythmia because of vasodilatory...

Effect of Calcium Channel Blockers on Intraocular Pressure in Rabbits

The objective of the study was to evaluate the antiglaucoma effect of calcium channel blockers diltiazem and verapamil. Albino rabbits were used and chronic glaucoma was induced in them using freshly prepared 150 units of alphachymotrypsin. 0.1 mL of drug solution was administered topically into the left eye whereas the right served as control. The pressure recording was carried out at 15, 30, ...
